Chanakya Neeti

Chanakya Neeti is a book with almost 17 chapters with the Sanskrit Sloga and their Explanation in English.

Chanakya is the advisor of the first emperor of India, Chandra Gupta Maurya and his son Bindusara. He wished to have a self-dependent economy that is not entirely dependant on export. He said to Nandha king there are a lot of foreigners who try to invade and we should unite with all other kings of the provinces in Bharath to safeguard and protect from invaders. Nanda humiliated him saying he was ugly. Chanakya made a vow saying I will end your dynasty. He did with the help of Chandragupta Maurya. I am saying a lot about Chankaya than on this book. Let me summarize Chanakya Neeti.

In most of the section in this book, he says the importance of education. Education is very important and it helps to earn wealth. He says how a king should rule, people are the important asset of the king and he should treat everyone equal. Wealth is also important because no one will hear our words unless we are wealthier. People believe the words said by a wealthier person and follow what they say so one should gain knowledge on how to acquire wealth. He says to offer charity, donate to those who suffer not to those who have.

This book gives you the idea to live an ideal life.

Review on 51 Lesser Known Tales From the Mahabharata

51 Lesser Known Tales From the Mahabharata by Sharath Komarraju have a lot of stories that I never heard and few are known. The tales are not only from Mahabharata, but it also has stories from Ramayana and other Puranas t.

How many of you know that Satyavati, wife of Shanthanu was a princess born to king  Uparichara who has her to the fisherman. There is tory how Jarasantha was born. Barbarika, son of Gadolkacha may have ended the war in a minute if he has participated in it. The story of blinding of Shukracharya related to Bali's story. There are 7 Chiranjeevi's in this world. There are stories about Yaksha, Kinnara, Kimpurushas and Gandharva. Everyone knows Amba was reborn as Shikandi but here the story is narrated as Shikandi is daughter to Amba and Drupad.

This was really interesting. My favourite genre is mythology. A lot of unknown stories, some from a different perspective. In olden days there were no writing forms and the stories and knowledge were transferred as slogans so we get different sort of additional facts with a different perspective. There are lot of interesting stories to known from this. I really suggest you guys to read this book.

EverAfter : A Graphic Novel

EverAfter is a graphic novel where two young girls Vivi and Eva try to escape from the zombie apocalypse. Eva was part of the team in Weimar protecting people from zombies. Vivi was stressed because of her sister's death and doesn't come out to see the world for almost 2 years. Then she comes out to be part of the team and get a friend named Isabella. They two need to help in fixing barricades. The zombie attacks Isabella and Eva help who made them work on it. Isabella was wounded so Eva cuts her hands else she will get infected and become a zombie. But the heads of the team tell Eva to kill Isabella and she kills her with Gun. Later Eva finds she got the infection to and try to evacuate the city to get the medication in Jane. She was so stressed by the Isabellas death and commits suicide and saved by the warden. Vivi escapes from there and gets into a train. The two girls Eva and Vivi meet in the train when trying to move to Jane. The train stops because of some issues, and they need to walk along to reach the city. The obstacles they face while moving is the story.

After a long, I have read a graphic novel. I was confused while reading and moved back to the pages to get clarity.

I was a bit confused even at the ending because Eva was trying to move to the city to get medicated to recover from her transformation but she can’t and she doesn't change into a full zombie in the climax like the man Vivi met in the journey half-man half-plant.

There were a lot of pictures and I enjoyed it. There should be more sentences to make understand the situations. Anyway, I enjoyed the story, and it took me an hour to read the story.

My Trip to Adele.

We all know there are a lot of fans around the world for Adele. There are Adele songs that match different situations. There are 3 plots in this book which connect to the Adele concert. In each chapter, there are verses from the Adele song that matches the situation.

In the first Elias live in Rome, Italy who goes back to Marrakesh, Morocco to find his lost love. He went for a vacation in Marrakesh, he was 28 at the time. He fell in love with a prostitute named Malika who was a  teenage girl, just 13. He doesn't know she was 13 and he had guilt and went back to Rome. Almost 8 years went off but still, he thinks of her. A fortune teller tells him that Malika and he was separated because of black magic, he should go back and find her. He gave her a gift before leaving her when he was 28 to help her learn English and he said we will meet when there is a live concert by Adele.

The second plot is set in Los Vegas, US. The couple who are surgeons trying to make their 8 years of marriage life to work. They go to marriage counselling to rebuild their relationship. They are trying to find the happiest moment in life. They are Mariam and Yaser. What Yaser loved in her became a problem, it is faith. Yaser was adjusting as much as he can in these 8 years. Mariam can't find the happiest moment but Yaser finds it, the day of their proposal and tries to recreate some of those moments.

The next story is of a divorcee woman living in Amman, Jordan. She plans to give her son a birthday gift by taking him to live concert of Adele in Verona, Italy. She divorced her husband because he abused her and went to another girl when she was pregnant. Now he is having his third marriage. He took his son for it and he got wounded while the people used a gun as some tradition that happens in the marriage. This plot is all about Nadia and his son and whether they go to the concert because his father has some rights on him which can block his travel to Verona.

My Trip to Adele is about whether they make the trip to the Adele concert and their story with Adele songs, how much their life is connected with Adele songs.

Attitude is Everything

Attitude is everything is right but this is about one of the books I read named attitude is everything by Jeff Keller. He says if we need to change our life we need to change our attitude. Some people have the wrong assumption about attitude. Attitude is the way we react to situations around us, but some ask me when I am angry are you showing your attitude that is definitely the wrong assumption.

“Our Success Begins in the Mind”

We should focus on learning like a child who tries to walk because a child doesn't frown or blame the carpet or quit trying to walk. Have the attitude of never giving up.

We should think of the goal of what we are trying to accomplish often. We become what we think about. If you constantly think about a particular goal, then you’ll take steps to move toward that.

Changing the attitude is not enough you should take action. make a commitment, do whatever it takes to accomplish the goal and you will find the way to achieve it, and resources that you have never found before. Robert Collier said, “There is nothing on earth you cannot have, once you mentally accepted the fact that you can have it".

He says to turn your problems into opportunities. “Problem is often not a problem at all they are actually an opportunity to prove yourself”. So never fear when problems arise turn it into opportunity. When we need something we shouldn’t be feared of failures. we should try until we achieve it. we should move out of our comfort zone. If you always want to be a positive associate with positive people.

There are a lot more we can learn from this book. We should try to apply it in our daily life.

Indra Nooyi and Pepsico

Indra Nooyi was born on Oct 28, 1955. There is another great person who shares the same date of birth and he is, Mr. Bill Gates. She was the second daughter in her family she had an elder sister and younger brother. Her motivation and role model is her mother Shantha, she is the influencer who is part of her success in her life and she mentions her in most parts of the book.

Nowadays we can see a lot of women entrepreneurs, CEOs, CFOs but in the 19th century, there was a strong glass ceiling that has to be broken. She broke the glass ceiling with hard work and perseverance. She was a great strategist who joined as vice president of corporate strategy and development in 1994 in Pepsico. She became a board member of Pepsico. In 2001 she became CFO and in 2006 she became CEO.

She did her schooling in Holy Angels Anglo Indian School, got a degree from MCC later joined in IIM Kolkata for PG and she did MBA at yales University. From childhood, she was so active and had a leadership quality, analyze people, and make people work together. She sings well she was a part of the college rock band. she is part of the women cricket team in her college.

When she was part of Pepsico there were many acquisitions. Pepsico acquired Quaker Oats, Tropicana, Bisleri, and lot more they diversified their portfolio. They were not only competitors for coke they were competitors to other sectors. She had the capability of making her decisions to be discussed and make the board feel that actually, they were the decision-makers.

She was a straight forward woman with a future vision that made her a successful CEO. She says that Pepsico was also her child and she is just a part of success in Pepsico. Indra did her all jobs well as a CEO, mother, wife, daughter.  Her mother Shantha said her to take off the crown before coming to the home as she is a normal human being and she should do what is to be done to the family from her part.

She is good at handling the resources to the fullest because she only had 2 buckets of water has ration for her day when she was a small girl living in Chennai. This may be the reason she can use limited resources wisely to achieve the goal. She has said that she needs to work twice to reach the heights because she was an Indian and a woman whose competition was men.

Everyone knows Indra after becoming famous and a successful person but there were a  lot of struggles behind, that everyone should know to reach the success they want. Even her brother and sister were also settled in the US. They were also the best in the sector they worked in.

The first thing that made me happy while reading the book was she hailed from Chennai. I am a Chennai girl and when I came to know she was also from here made me very happy. I only know her as the former CEO of Pepsico. The second name Nooyi made me think she was someone from some part of India.

She is a great motivation for me and everyone. There are certain chapters that make you think and also laugh. She mentioned a lot about her mom and PepsiCo in her biography. I loved it.  I think everyone should read it. I got this book while using the amazon prime trial.
