Being Oneself

The Death of Vivek Oji by Akwaeke Emezi is a really amazing book. This narrates the story of a boy who cannot live the way he wished.

The book begins with the market riots on the day Vivek died. Vivek was found dead in the veranda with bloodstains. His mother is trying to find what happened to her soon and who bought him there. The plot is set in Nigeria. Vivek's dad is a Nigerian and his mother is an Indian. There was a community called nigerwives who are from other countries married to a Nigerian and Vivek's mother was part of that community and Vivek's friends were their children.

Vivek and his cousin Osita were close friends which later become a  different relationship more than friendship. Vivek's parents and other people around thought he was sick. They really don't know what was going inside him neither he doesn't want to convey it to parents and make them feel bad. The only people who know his real identity was his friends and cousin who stayed with him and made him happy.

The way the plot was changing back and forth from past and present was really good. Vivek's mother Kavita was asking her friends are torching them to know what happened to him because they always stayed together. The way Vivek died made me feel so sad. I really felt bad but something that felt great was he had good friends.

The world should accept one the way they are. Especially whether the society accepts or not the parents should understand what's happening to their children and make them feel better. they should not think about what society thinks. I feel the society should be more accepting and open-minded so this sort of things won't happen in real life.

If Vivek lived the way he like before everyone he may have survived. He doesn't want his parents to know the truth about him but finally, they came to know who the Vivek Nnmedi Oji was.

The Multi- Hyphen Life: Multiple Careers

The Multi-Hyphen Life by Emma Gannon gives me insight into how the multi hyphen life works how success differs from people to people.

Nowadays people don't want to fix into one box they wish to have multiple careers. She says there is no single destination in life it is a series of dreams realized and breakthrough after breakthrough.

To have a multi-hyphen life we should analyse and find what we really enjoy. We should know about our self-worth. She says us, not o compare us with others as our circumstance and decision differs from others. We should have competition within oneself.

One should find their definition of success and about things that make them feel good.

Nowadays a new work environment is more flexible many are freelance workers with multiple careers. I really wish to be one of them. Having multiple careers is not wrong. We should understand how the working world is changing and new work designation is created.

We should create our boundaries, online boundaries because now everything is flexible and we forget we are working for having a nice life with our family and replying emails and working at anytime, replying emails and messages from the clients and employers. so we should create our own boundary and should know how important is saying no.

We should work-life balance and should know how to blend work & life. Getting a good mentor is important and networking is something more important especially with appropriate peoples.

The working world is changing and we need to adapt to it.

The best thing I liked was this quote which was said in the last chapter by Emma, "Let's not to be afraid to be many different things".

I heard the audiobook and I feel so happy because many ask me a lot of questions as I am having somewhat multi hyphen lifestyle. I enjoyed it and I want to be consistent and persistent in what I do.

Each book I read is creating some impact in my life. I thank myself for reading this book.

Strategy

This book in which Michael Porter explains about strategy and how it is misunderstood and how to identify a strategy, how to improve sales, increase return on investment.

The book had a nice illustration which I liked a lot. It is a very small book and easy read written in a very simple format.

It really explains that winning is not everything and about zero-sum competition. The company should have the right mindset especially they should have tradeoffs what not to do, whom not to serve, which sort of customers to serve. He says how the people misunderstood strategy with marketing and the essence of strategy and how to use the capital efficiently.

To become a profitable business we don't need to crush the rivals, should be creating the own game having unique value for customers.

I came to understand what the strategy really is and business should have a specific strategy. Whatever I read or learn gives me some new knowledge and ideas. I really feel so good.
