Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 is such a powerful read which says the problem in this patriarchal society she has faced as a child and in different stages of her life because of the stereotypes.
Her father and grandma wished to have a son for him. Kim has an elder sister and younger brother. The male in the home are treated in a different way. The special care and the treatment.
I like Kim’s mom where it portrayed what she dreamed and what was reality and how she made up her mind to teach her kids well and how she placed a world map in their room.
The trekking club where she was had no women as head till the time she was in it and they were treated well but said they are soft, gentle people so they are caring more.
There are a lot of restrictions in their school and the question asked in the interview literally made me angry. Getting a job in those periods was so tough that women may not stay long in a firm as they will marry and move or their other personal responsibilities may make them quit.
The promotion was given to the man in her firm who also joined in the same period when she was more eligible for the promotion and client meeting where she was not treated well.
Her marriage life where she can’t make a decision when to have a kid and her decision to quit job to take care of the kid and some men’s comments when she was drinking same coffee as them all this made me angry and feel pity for the event in her life which made her seek medical help and treat herself.
I think everyone should read this book. I believe we are in a far better place where we can live the way we want and decide and the organizations that look at talent than gender.
